God gives grace to the humble

Last week during service I read Psalm 27 for many reasons but it had really spoken to me the night before as I was preparing for my message the next morning.

Psalm 27 has the title of “The Lord is my light and my salvation”. I love the psalms as a starting place for me when I feel as if the words escape me for my prayer time. This particular Psalm is a very powerful one to pray and gave me strength on Saturday night as well as Sunday morning. I do believe that all of us can relate in some fashion to many of the heartfelt ideas presented by King David in all the psalms but especially in Psalm 27.

This Psalm comforted me in the knowing that no matter what may be against me I can have the confidence in knowing who I serve and that God makes my enemies weak. We often forget that this life compared to eternity is like a mist. No matter what we have going on in our life it should not steal our true joy that is found in Jesus Christ. We need to always remember that we live in a fallen world and suffering will occur, but if we are in Christ it should not matter.

The question then is what we do when presented with opposition or just tough times in our lives. I can speak for myself in this situation I used to depend upon my own understanding and abilities. I would so quickly forget that I serve the King of Kings the creator of all. Why did I constantly think that I could do better with my life and all the circumstances therein? In the end what God can do through me and for me in my life is exponentially greater than anything I could even imagine. But there are always some opposition to the process.

Catalyst church I pray that you can remember to leave pride behind and lean on God through everything. After all when you look at the facts, not submitting to God or even trying to do things without God is a form of PRIDE. Pride causes us to have stunted spiritual growth and the Bible throughout warns us of this. “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” (James 4:6-10 ESV) I am praying that over Catalyst church.
