[19] Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a bad tooth and a foot out of joint.
Have you ever tried to stand up when a foot has fallen asleep? If you have, you know there better be something else nearby to grab onto. You know your leg is there, but not there for use. It isn't dependable. It can't be trusted. It will stay right there and watch you fall. I have had friends just like that. I have also (unfortunately) been that friend.
There is something inherently GOOD about having dependable friends. I am blessed to have quite a few. I know I can count on them. I can call them at any time and they will answer. If I need them, they are there... wherever I need them. I try to be that friend as well.
The body of Christ should always mimic the attributes of Christ. He has always been faithful to His own. As a member of a faith family, we have an obligation to serve others faithful. We should care for others dependably. We should always strive to be as reliable as the God we serve.
