Acts 11:27-30 NKJV
[27] And in these days, prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch. [28] Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar. [29] Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea. [30] This they also did and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
One of the longstanding practices I have been working to break is my unwillingness to seek help. I hate feeling like I am being a burden. I am fully aware that others have their own troubles to deal with without dealing with mine. I was raised by a man's man who taught me to do things myself. I should be capable of doing things without creating a chore for another person. Mixed somewhere in the middle of all of this is a double portion of foolish pride.
One of the first tasks of the early church was to assist with the coming famine. God provided the message through Agabus as a call for others to help. In the midst of the coming chaos, God had already set a team in place to meet the needs... a bunch of seemingly random people called to use their own separate gifts to accomplish a common goal.
Active fellowship with other believers is one of God's gifts to His children. The church body is made up of people from various backgrounds, each with their own gifts, talents, and abilities. The Lord knows we aren't capable of doing everything on our own. He knows what we need before we ask. He already has His people in place to help, but we have to be willing to seek it out.
Lord, thank You for the family You have placed me in. Help me to recognize when my pride gets in Your way. I want to walk in the freedom of knowing I GET to rely on You, Your people, and Your provision.
