[6] Now, when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. [7] After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. [8] So, passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. [9] And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” [10] Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.
Most days, I wake up knowing what the day holds. I know what I am going to do and what I need to get it done. I like having a plan. I try to stick to the plan, and I get frustrated when those plans change unexpectedly.
As a believer, I like to think that I operate within God's will. I spend time in the Word, I pray regularly, and I serve beyond myself. I think I am doing what I'm called to do, but a large portion of that is made up of predetermined plans. I know what I am going to do and when I'm going to do it. I have a set schedule, and I can't help but wonder if that schedule blinds me to occasional redirections.
I heard a clip from a podcast that blew my mind. "Roughly half of Jesus's miracles were interruptions. He had a plan. He had a destination, but He was interruptable... I wonder how often we miss what God is doing when we hold too tightly to our own plans."
Paul was so intune with the Holy Spirit that he knew where to go, when to go, and where not to go. He heard from the Lord and responded accordingly without hesitattion. I have my work cut out for me if I am going to be that moldable and blindly obedient to God's will.
