Acts 18:12-17 NKJV
[12] When Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him to the judgment seat, [13] saying, “This fellow persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.” [14] And when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of wrongdoing or wicked crimes, O Jews, there would be reason why I should bear with you. [15] But if it is a question of words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves; for I do not want to be a judge of such matters.” [16] And he drove them from the judgment seat. [17] Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. But Gallio took no notice of these things.
Up to this point, Paul's ministry didn't exactly have a perfect track record. He had been ridiculed, imprisoned, stoned, and left for dead. He found resistance at every turn. I'm sure he knew what it was like to be worried, homeless, and hungry. For him, it was probably a bit of a relief to land somewhere that he was able to find a dependable job and decent housing.
God clearly understood Paul's heart. So much so that He spoke to Paul in a dream to reassure him. Paul had been in Corinth long enough to be comfortable, but not long enough to become complacent. He was still obedient, but I would imagine he had some reservations about the next inevitable "situation."
While I am the first to admit that I have no idea where God plans to use me in the future, I have never doubted that He is in control. I don't believe God will ever send me where He will not sustain me. God has His people placed in every corner of the world for His good purpose. The unknown is uncomfortable, but we can trust His plans over our concerns. If we go for the glory of God, no matter where it is, He has already made the way.
