Acts 18:22-28 NKJV

[22] And when he had landed at Caesarea and gone up and greeted the church, he went down to Antioch. [23] After he had spent some time there, he departed and went over the region of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples. [24] Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. [25] This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. [26] So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. [27] And when he desired to cross to Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him; and when he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace; [28] for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.

Paul understood something most of us occasionally fail to grasp. He knew that his work in Ephesus was sufficient. Not because he did everything right, but because he knew that God was still at work when He left. Priscilla and Aquila were there. While Paul was busy in other regions, God sent Apollos to learn from Priscilla and Aquila and help them build and lead the early church.

Paul planted the seeds of the gospel in many areas. Paul wasn't responsible for what would happen when he left. He trusted God with the increase because God had entrusted Paul with the gift of planting seeds. Paul later goes on to write the church in Corinth, acknowledging this truth.

I Corinthians 3:5 - Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? 6. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 7. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.

God doesn't need us to do it all. He wants us to use our gifts in the areas we are called to use them. Micromanagement is one of the biggest killers in a successful ministry. If I waste time standing around waiting to see the things I have done come to fruition, I will miss out on what God has planned for me next. If God trusts me enough to bless me with certain gifts, I have to believe that He will tend to and use whatever I have done. I'm not doing it for me. It is all for His glory, anyway.
