[9] For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; [10] that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
I think it is important to pray for specifics when we talk to God. He already knows what is going on. He already knows what we need. I still think there is some value in having the humility to bring it to the Lord earnestly... to ask humbly... and to believe faithfully.
Beyond our personal petitions, I also think it is important to pray specifically for our family, friends, and church. When we know the intimate details of our loved one's struggles, we should pray for them also. When I am intentional about doing this, I find it does a few things. It allows me to think beyond my own needs, it keeps me in constant contact with God, and it quietly blesses the ones I am praying for.
