[22] Bondservants obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in the sincerity of heart, fearing God.
None of us will ever have to endure the hardships of slavery, but most of us are (or have been) employed. Employees have to answer to their employers.
I have worked for people I didn't like. I have had to answer to a person or two whom I didn't respect. I still did what I was told because, to be honest, I didn't want to lose my job. It wasn't about honoring the Lord. I was providing for my family.
I have been blessed to be self-employed in recent years. With that comes the mindset of being employed by every customer. I am still providing for my family, but I use every opportunity to show the love of Jesus to the people I meet. Even the least glamorous of jobs (toilets, black tanks, etc.) provide me with a chance to be humbly grateful for the Lord’s provision. Every job is an opportunity to glorify God.
