[24] knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. [25] But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.
Growing up in a disciplinarian home, I learned early on that actions had consequences. If I played stupid games, I won stupid prizes. Spankings from Mom and whippings from Dad were a mainstay because I got into plenty of trouble. I wasn't exactly the most obedient kid.
I am a firm believer that discipline plays a large part in raising kids. They have to understand right from wrong, but I have also learned that "just rewards" are equally important as "just punishment." God doesn't merely point out what we get wrong. He loves us unconditionally... enough to discipline us... and enough to reward us.
The promise of eternity is so much greater than the correction we receive. We are shown grace and mercy way more than we deserve because He is good. I have never been a fan of discipline, but I understand God disciplines the ones He loves because He wants us with Him.
