[19] For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, [20] according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. [21] For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. [22] But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I can not tell.
Imagine the arrogance of believing that we are owners of our own time in this life. The sad truth is we all go about our days, stuck in the ruts of work, busyness, and sleep, missing out on all kinds of golden opportunities. Yesterday is over and done. The book has been cracked for today. Who knows if there will be a tomorrow?
Paul had a perspective on life and death that we often overlook. Each day is a gift that we're given to choose who (or what) we serve. I had an opportunity today to stop and pray with a couple about an issue they were facing. How many times do I miss those opportunities by being too busy to notice or bother?
Lord, help me to be appreciative of the time I'm given. Give me the wisdom to recognize the open doors to sharing my faith and the boldness to do so in a way that honors You and the time I'm given here.
