[3] Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. [4] Let each of you look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others.
I was a selfish sibling. I wanted things my way. I didn't like to share anything. What's mine is mine and, if I liked yours enough, it was supposed to be mine too.
Following Jesus has taught me a lot about selflessness. I am trying to pattern myself after someone who laid down His life for selfish people (myself included). If I am doing a decent job at following Him, I can't, in clear conscience, look out for myself alone. I have to consider others before myself. My wants, my needs, and my desires have to take a backseat to God's will. Looking out for "number one" is not looking to God's leadership or honoring His headship.
