[7] But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. [8] Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ [9] and be found in Him, not having my righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; [10] that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, [11] if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
I like to believe I do a lot of good things. I make good decisions (most of the time.) I am supportive of my friends. I offer sound advice and (most of the time) practice what I preach.
That is my perspective. This is how "I" see it.
What does God see?
Am I following Jesus every step of the way? Do my behavior, words, and actions align with His Word? Am I steering my family and those closest to me to the foot of the cross?
When I draw comparisons between my opinions and the sound doctrine of the Bible, I don't feel as good about myself. I don't have the freedom to operate with confidence in MY behavior. I operate (and I am saved) solely by the grace of God and the blood of Christ. My righteousness doesn't exist apart from Jesus.
