[9] The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
Although Paul is writing to the people of Philippi, I read this passage as though Jesus is speaking to me.
I didn't have an incredible example of a godly man growing up. I was raised by a good man, but he wasn't set on following Jesus. I used this "lack of" example as an excuse for a long time. I pardoned my lack of involvement in church, overlooked my responsibilities as a husband and father, and took for granted the huge responsibility God had bestowed upon me... my family suffered because of this.
I no longer look for reasons "not to." I have seen, experienced, and felt the presence of the Lord in very powerful ways. I don't get it all right, but I get it. Jesus didn't save me just to sit on the sidelines. He allowed me to experience His love, joy, and grace so that I can lead my family by His example.
