[1] The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.
As a son, I have been responsible for the pride of my dad and the heartache of my mom. I'm not proud of every decision I have ever made, but I can attest to the fact that all of those decisions brought me to where I am. On this side of life, I understand that all of these things have become an integral part of God's fingerprint in me.
As a parent, I have experienced many of the highs and lows that come from parenthood. We have experienced the frustration of a wayward son. We've seen the fallout from some of their foolish decisions. We have also been privy to the joys of our children's successes... seeing their hard work pay off and their potential unfold in glorious ways.
Parenting is not for the faint of heart, but I believe it gives us a window into the heart of God. Even with all of the frustrations that seem to accompany it, I am thankful for the blessings of getting to see what God can (and will) do with (and through) our kids.
