[15] He who is surety for a stranger will suffer, but one who hates being surety is secure.
I have spent the entirety of my adult life in debt. For me, a certain level of debt has been a necessary evil. We need a place to live. We need transportation. We have to eat. The only good thing about my debt being my own is that I am not counting on anyone else or covering anyone else.
God gave me a family (under my roof) to take care of. They are mine to love, tend to, and care for. I am not (and this scripture points out that I should not) assume responsibility for anyone else. I am no good at helping anyone if I am not stewarding my family as God intended.
