[1] These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied: [2] It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter. [3] As the heavens for height and the earth for depth, so the heart of kings is unsearchable. [4] Take away the dross from silver, and it will go to the silversmith for jewelry. [5] Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness.
Sanctification is exhausting work. It requires constant effort and attention. If I am left to my own devices, I will quickly run off the rails. Righteousness doesn't just happen by chance. It is energy spent daily looking inward with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Over the past few weeks, my wife and I have had several conversations about some old tendencies I have that are not loving or God-honoring. I don't like these conversations. Every part of me really wants to push away from it... but I know that I am called to a higher standard. Jesus is that standard.
