[11] A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold In settings of silver. [12] Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold Is a wise rebuker to an obedient ear. [13] Like the cold of snow in time of harvest Is a faithful messenger to those who send him, For he refreshes the soul of his masters.
For most of my life, I have found it difficult to receive correction. The old me thrived on affirmations. It wasn't that I liked them, my old identity required them. If I wasn't complimented constantly, I didn't measure up... I was a failure. That "false truth" made correction and constructive criticism crushing to my spirit.
Some of the most important things I have ever been told were the hardest things I have ever had to hear. Part of growing closer to God is understanding that sanctification doesn't come naturally or comfortably. Being called out hurts. Being corrected stings, but the fruits of righteousness are a likeness to Christ and an eternity in the presence of God.
