[20] Like one who takes away a garment in cold weather, and like vinegar on soda, is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.
If you have ever watched Winnie the Pooh, you probably remember Eeyore. It didn't matter how joyful the other characters were, Eeyore always had something sad to say. Everything was bad all of the time. Even as a child, I couldn't help but think how miserable he must've been.
Why?
Words matter.
Words have the power of life and death. (Proverbs 18:20)
A gentle answer turns away wrath. (Proverbs 15:1)
I believe we have the ability to speak things into existence (in a way). The troubles don't necessarily disappear, but our outlook can change with positive affirmations. The way we talk about a situation can directly affect our view of the outcome. We use words to pray, plead, and praise... they express gratitude and grace. Why should we ever choose to misuse them with negative talk?
