Proverbs 26:10 NKJV

[10] The great God who formed everything gives the fool his hire and the transgressor his wages.

It is a well-known fact that we cannot earn salvation. The cost exceeds our human capabilities. What Jesus did paid it all once and for all. Our contribution to what He did is our commitment to living out a life for Him... dying to ourselves and denying our flesh.

The "fool" is the one living without repentance and remorse. "I messed up and I'll do it again (without guilt or concern for consequences)." We can't earn Heaven on our own, but we can earn hell with little upfront cost. I have been that fool. I strive each day to make sure that cycle isn't repeated through repentance, sanctification, and loads of undeserved grace.
