[11] As a dog returns to his own vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.
As someone who has openly dealt with (and overcome) addiction, this Scripture resonates with me. I was having a discussion with a counselor and I quoted this verse. The response I received was a perspective I had never heard before. "The difference between the dog and the fool is that the dog knows there are still something valuable in the vomit."
There is a draw and attraction to every folly, vise, or addiction. I knew I couldn't leave an open void where my addictions were, so I had to trade them for Jesus. I still deal with the fool in me. I have to make the decision each day to pursue God over all things that pull me away from Him. Nothing good comes from the folly. All good things comes from the Lord.
