[2] Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.
Years ago (when I worked on cars), I had a customer who was notoriously full of himself. He was a nice guy. He just really liked to brag about all he had done. He caught me in a rare mood one day and I asked him why he always felt the need to boast. He said, "It was a poor dog that couldn't wag its own tail." I laughed, but it made me a little sad for him.
I appreciate compliments. I don't require recognition to do good. If I am doing the right thing, I don't need to be noticed or praised. My integrity and my convictions require that I do the right thing even when someone isn't loooking. I don't worship for the sake of those around me. I don't read scripture and pray to earn brownie points with other people. I pursue Jesus because I want to hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
