[14] Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil. [15] Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on. [16] For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall. [17] For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
Jesus notoriously surrounded Himself with some undesirable people. Nobody was hated more than the tax collector. Fishermen were the equivalent of modern-day sailors... rough around the edges. He chose twelve of the most unassuming guys as His disciples. He didn't follow them.
Jesus didn't drop to their level to make friends. He didn't venture down their paths. He drew them to Him and led them the right way. I believe we have the power of the Holy Spirit within us to change the world, but we can't be the change by acting like the world. We are supposed to be different. We can't follow the wicked and still pursue Christ.
