Proverbs 6:20-22 NKJV

[20] My son, keep your father’s command, and do not forsake the law of your mother. [21] Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck. [22] When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you.

I consider myself blessed to have been raised in the home of a praying mother. She wasn't perfect, but she did her best to raise a couple of godly men without godly male headship. She took us to church. She prayed with us, for us, and over us constantly. She always believed in us and never gave up on us. I did more than my fair share of straying (into my forties), but I always leaned back into how she brought me up.

Even though my mother had no idea how to be a man, she knew how to read the Bible and she knew how to pray. It was her example that laid the groundwork for Jesus in my heart. I loved my dad and I am grateful that he came to know the Lord in his later years, but I have to believe that it was the wings of my mother's prayers that led me back to the foot of the cross.
