[7] “He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, and he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself. [8] Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. [9] Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
I deal with people a lot. There aren't many things more frustrating than speaking into someone's life, only to have them do the complete opposite of what you say... and ultimately self-destruct. I could see it coming from a mile away. I couldn't stop it.
I have learned that offering insight isn't always the best option. I used to be one of those people who had to learn the hard way. Any unsolicited advice I received was offensive. The Holy Spirit doesn't force us to heed wisdom. We have to be discerning enough to follow His lead before helping others.
