[8] Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. [9] For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” [10] Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law.
If I say "I love you," I mean it. I will go above and beyond to help you. I'll be there if you need me. I will do my best to show up for you and be present. I don't take that phrase lightly.
When I examine it from the biblical, God-honoring standpoint, I'm not sure I always measure up. I get cranky, irritable, and agitated. I act out of character when I am frustrated. I allow my emotions to dictate the way I behave, even towards the ones I care about the most.
The kind of love that covers a multitude of sins isn't driven by emotions. It is a conscious decision to allow the Holy Spirit to shine through... to care without concern for thoughts, feelings, and opinions. That kind of love shows up everyday... especiallythe bad ones. That kind of love washed the feet of Judas.
