Proverbs 11:11 NKJV

[11] By the blessing of the upright, the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

If there is one thing we can't control, it is what other people say. I have been on the receiving end of numerous slanderous remarks. Strangely enough, the people who have to least amount of good to say are the ones who possess the least amount of value in their words.

One thing I have done well over the past few years is surround myself with good, godly people. We are directly affected by the kinds of people we associate with. I am thankful for those nearest to me because they correct me, encourage me, and call me out when needed. I don't always love correction, but truth is life to all who pursue Jesus.
