[14] But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
Love is hard. It doesn't come easy all the time. People can behave in ways that make them unlovable... or very difficult to love at best. Circumstances can make loving others an unnatural reaction because, well, we're emotionally driven humans.
If I am irritable, I am supposed to love anyway. If others treat me disrespectfully... if I am mistreated in any way, I am still supposed to lead with love.
As Christians, we are not asked to do the easy thing, we are called (commanded) to do the things that Jesus did. This kind of love is not meant to please our selfish, simple sides. It is required to lead us to a higher level of Godliness and one step closer to sanctification.
