[5] Open rebuke is better than love carefully concealed.
My job requires me to work on roofs quite a bit. It also allows me to have my son work with me. When he first started out, I (felt like I) had to constantly remind him about where he was. I would tell him before he climbed the ladder to watch his step. If he seemed to be too comfortable, too complacent, or too close, I would call him out. Even if it irritated him, it was for his benefit. I KNEW he needed the reminder.
When I first started working through the sanctification process, I had mentors who walked beside me through it. If my thoughts ventured too close to the edge, they would call me back. I was (somewhat) aware of the areas to avoid. They understood more because they had a better vantage point and more experience. I am thankful for those people who had rather hurt my feelings that witness a preventable disaster caused by my foolishness.
