[13] My son, eat honey because it is good, and the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste; [14] So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul; If you have found it, there is a prospect, And your hope will not be cut off.
I grew up taking daily vitamins. At one point, my mom changed brands. The flavor was atrocious. I couldn't bear the taste, so I secretly hid them in a junk drawer (until my secret was discovered). I ended up getting in trouble for it. I remember wondering why I should be forced to take something that tasted so bad. Why wasn't Flintstone vitamins good enough?
Now that I am older, I have a different level of appreciation for that experience. Those vitamins weren't meant to taste good. They were meant to keep me from feeling bad. Wise counsel can be bitter to taste. The "aftertaste" of its application is where the sweetness comes in. Correction is temporarily uncomfortable, but salvation and sanctification lead us to eternal joy in the presence of the Lord.
