[9] Ointment and perfume delight the heart, and the sweetness of a man’s friend gives delight by hearty counsel.
One of the things I miss about my childhood is sitting with my grandparents on their front porch. Times were simpler and the days passed much slower than they do now. As a kid, I took that time forgranted. I didn't realize how much wisdom and life experience would be lost when they passed away. My grandparents had lived a lot. They offered advise based on real-world experience.
Although I may not have my grandparents to reach out to when I have questions about life, I have access to scripture. As I study through Proverbs, I have come to realize that much of what my grandmother said equated to her translation of the Bible. It was God's Word spoken in granny's voice from her point of view. I miss those lost moments, but I am blessed with mentors who know scripture and understand how it applies in my circumstances. God provides people to keep us pointed towards Him.
