[1] Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding; [2] For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law. [3] When I was my father’s son, Tender and the only one in the sight of my mother, [4] He also taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live.

My dad was a good man. He taught me how to work by providing me with a great example. As a child, it seemed like he could fix, build, or do anything. He is the main reason why I am not afraid to take anything apart... and why I never shied away from a big construction project.

For all he did, I relied heavily on my mom for the instruction and admonition of the Lord. She was the one who prayed with us and over us. She took us to church. She provided us with the example of spiritual leadership required to raise kids... at least to the best of her ability.

I could certainly use all of this as an excuse. I could avoid leading my family because I never saw it done by the man of the house. If I did, it would be disrespectful and dismissive of God's leadership in my life. I can't look to a man for something my Father is showing me. He is teaching me every day as I grow closer to Him.
